<p>入行已久，做的领域也从浏览器扩展到桌面端甚至是手机端，对 Web 标准多少有些自己的看法，今日斗胆一说。</p>
<h2>两种家</h2>
<p>我们困惑不解、迷惑不安，很大程度上源于没有指导思想。要摆正自己的位置，我们究竟是想做科学家，还是想做工程师。简明扼要，科学家经常要问&#8220;为什么&#8221;，他们关心了解人类不懂的知识；工程师则利用科学家发现的知识，制造对人类有用的物体或工具。前者研究，后者实战。很明显，我们大多数人属于工程师，W3C 那一群才是科学家。端正自己的态度，很多疑问就会迎刃而解。</p>
<h2>两种用法</h2>
<p>HTML 生为标记语言，是组织文档的一种格式。随着技术和社会的不断进步，HTML 的用途也逐渐升级。今天它不仅出现在浏览器上（普通网页），它还出现在桌面程序上（Adobe AIR），出现在手机程序上（PalmPre WebOS）；它不仅用来展示网页，也用来构建程序的用户界面。Web 标准要求我们，HTML 必须有良好的语义化，对于展示内容的文档来说，这是毋庸置疑的，但对于只是作为构建用户界面的程序来说，强调语义是没有多大意义的。要注重语义的时候一定不能松懈，只是用户界面而已的话，怎么方便怎么来，利用最方便的手段做最适合的布局。</p>
<h2>实用主义的前提</h2>
<p>工程师信奉的是实用主义，但不等于可以放弃原则和规范。工程师关键任务是在遵守规范的前提下，发现、理解并结合实际的局限来达到满意的结果。作为一个流量巨大的网站，Google 对待 HTML 的态度是一个非常好的例子，省略<code><font size=4>&lt;/body&gt;</font></code> 和 <code><font size=4>&lt;/html&gt;</font></code> 的做法我们何曾想过呢？但这却是符合 HTML 4 规范的。详见： <a onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/code.google.com');" href="http://code.google.com/speed/articles/optimizing-html.html"><u><font color=#27527d>http://code.google.com/speed/articles/optimizing-html.html</font></u></a>（需自行翻墙）。</p>

            <td id=bcontent style="PADDING-RIGHT: 18px; PADDING-LEFT: 18px; FONT-SIZE: 14px; PADDING-BOTTOM: 16px; WORD-BREAK: normal; PADDING-TOP: 16px; WORD-WRAP: break-word" vAlign=top align=left>（原文写于08年12月，现在，我们的<a href="http://blog.sina.com.cn/s/blog_52cb75b90100dxcp.html" target=_blank><u><font color=#88641c>仪器原型</font></u></a>已经出来了）<br><br>前两天和研究院院长应邀去参观美国航天局在Huntsville的实验场，真是开眼界。最感到震撼的是每个零部件，每个小小的东西都是工程师们特制的。把那么复杂的东西，那个含有千千万万个零件的东西送上天，还要正常的运作，是一件多么不可思议的事？<br><br>因为我们正在研发自己的分子鉴别诊断仪器，每天都和几个高级工程师讨论。我发现他们的思维方式和我们这些搞自然科学的人有很大的不同。一个普通的PCR反 应设立，人手简单的几个动作，到了工程师那里可以被分解成九十几个步骤！他们要训练成机械性地思维，严谨的逻辑推理，这本身就是非常难的事情。<br><br>我们去参观的是NASA的生命维护体系，他们正在研制的是今后要到月球上建立的长期工作站。在太空，除了大便经过处理丢掉以外，尿液，汗，和呼吸出来的水 分全部经过处理回收并循环利用。整个空间站的复制件我们都看到了。因为我们有多种病原体微生物同时检测的技术，这正是他们需要的。所以我们会跟他们有进一 步的合作。<br><br>科学家发现自然中的规律和现象；工程师能制造出一个人为的世界来。<br><br>我的工程师梦在九岁时就破灭了。那是从我父亲的朋友那里借到一本老的苏联杂志叫做《知识就是力量》，上面有一篇文章介绍如何自己动手做针孔照相机。原理很 清楚，于是我就动手做了起来。父亲的一个在X线科的医生朋友给了我几个柯达公司装X光胶片的硬纸板盒，里面一层是黑色的。我用小刀切到一半，可以折叠成很 漂亮的盒子。我设计了一个很好看的盒子，还找我舅舅的同学帮我设计了一个用橡皮筋的&#8220;快门&#8221;。万事具备，可是等我要往里面放胶卷时才在被子里（做临时暗 室）发现没有给放胶卷的地方留一个门！结果漂亮的照相机只能做摆设。<br><br>这么多年，动手做东西的能力几乎没有任何进步。前两天买了一个凳子，昨天把它拼装起来，一共只有不到二十个螺丝，结果我几次把东西装反，不得不从新来。<br><br>&nbsp; <br><img style="WIDTH: 266px; HEIGHT: 266px" alt="" src="http://www.sciencenet.cn/upload/blog/images/2009/8/2009827235124966.jpg"><br>工程师是一群非常值得敬佩的人，他们有独特的思维方式。我最爱听的一句他们常说的话就是&#8220;Everything is possible". 对他们而言，只要想做，什么都能成。科学家就缺少这种肯定性。对我们来说，每件事都有很多可能性，有些可能性变成了必然性，为什么？这是我们的思维方式。<br><br>工程师也经常申请专利，但是工程上的专利就不如生物技术上的专利含金量大。因为从工程的角度讲，同一件事情可以有不同的方式去达到目的；而生物学的一个酶 反应很难用其它酶来代替。换句话说，工程上的专利是保护人的杰作；生物技术上的专利是保护&#8220;上帝&#8221;的杰作。想绕开一个人为的壁垒不难，想绕开一个自然的壁 垒就相对难些。<br><br>人生能有机会和不同思维方式的人一起工作是一件乐趣。我们在研发的仪器已经经过许许多多的设计方案了，看到他们能够想出各种巧妙的方法，真是一种享受。<br></td>
